Chapter Six

Benny pressed his fingertips against the doorframe just below the window and stared at the road as it quickly passed them by. His gaze kept straying to the side mirror to make sure no motorcycles were following them.

As much as he loved being around Landon, maybe it was best if Benny left town. He was never gonna be as far away from the bikers as he wanted to be. Preacher was never gonna let him go, especially after he'd paid so much for Benny.

He was Preacher's property, and Preacher had reminded him of that fact every time he saw Benny.

"Are you sure we're safe?"

"We're fine and we're almost to the mall." Landon rested his hand on Benny's knee. "Relax."

Benny tucked his hair behind his ear and sat back. How could he relax? The entire biker gang had shown up to take him back. If that stupid Carlos guy hadn't sold Benny to them, he wouldn't be in this situation.

His heart squeezed when he heard the sound of a motorcycle. Benny shot forward and looked in the side mirror, but the rider wasn't one of the bikers.

He couldn't take this stress. Benny felt as though he'd crack at any second. Having a wolf looking out for him was nice, but Landon couldn't protect him against an entire gang.

Benny was doomed.

"My pack will protect you." Landon exited the highway and made a right turn, then a left when the light turned green. "Even the bears were willing to join in just to keep you safe."

"Okay." He forgot about their conversation as Landon parked and took Benny's hand, then led him into the mall. This was Benny's first time here, and he felt a bit overwhelmed by all the people.

He tightly gripped Landon's hand as he scooted close to his mate. "I can't…I…please, can we go?" Benny smashed his eyes closed and stopped walking, wishing all the people away.

He felt a hand land on his shoulder. "Benny, it's okay. Just breathe, sweetheart. I won't let anything happen to you."

"There're too many people. Make them leave."

Benny yelped when he was lifted off his feet. He opened his eyes and saw that Landon was taking him to an area with chairs, carpeting, and potted plants. Landon set Benny down and sat right next to him. "This area isn't too crowded, and it'll give you a chance to slowly get used to so many people without them being too close."

Benny started to close his eyes, but Landon tapped his knee. "Nope, keep them open."

"But I don't wanna." His gaze bounced everywhere, from the people strolling by, to storefronts, to the large potted plants on either side of their small couch. The chatter echoed and the annoying music played throughout the place.

Delicious smells wafted toward him and Benny leaned forward and sniffed. He'd eaten a large breakfast but he was still hungry, and the aroma of food made his belly grumble.

Benny wanted to ask Landon to get him something to eat, but he didn't want to be left alone.
